Glossary
The lack of a common language among people who work with children and young people can be a barrier to working together effectively. A glossary has been produced for managers and practitioners from different backgrounds working in multi-agency settings to promote and facilitate communication and understanding.

The benefits of a common language include:
- A better understanding between practitioners and agencies of each others' values and roles
- Valuing the contributions made by different practitioners
- Avoiding or reducing misunderstandings between practitioners
- Increased likelihood of achieving the five priority outcomes for children, young people and their families.
Agencies can ensure that the common language becomes well-established in Staffordshire in a number of ways. It needs to be available to all and actively promoted by managers. These include using the glossary:
- In training courses
- As a part of Induction for new staff
- To develop the Common Core of Skills and Knowledge of the Children's Workforce
- As a reference document in all places of work
- In presentations
