Did you know about parent's week - well you do now!! Parents have been having a dedicated celebration week for tem year this year, and the theme for 2009 is 'The Changing Face of Families'.
The week is about celebrating parents and a chance for the services that work with them to showcase what they do, put on events for parents or celebrate with parents they huge and important role they play in raising their children.
All across Staffordshire there is lots going on during the week, so visit our dedicated webpage to find out what is happening in your area. www.staffordshirechildrenstrust.org.uk/commissionerparents/parentsweek
More support for Parents
The government have given money to Local Authorities to develop something called The Parenting Early Intervention Programme or PEIP for short. This means that more work will be taking place to run more courses and groups for parents across the county. Everyone, whoever they are, what ever they do, what ever support they have or don't have could benefit from a course -so we are trying to make them as available as we can to anyone who would like them. For more information on where programmes are running in your area contact the Family Information Service on 0845 650 9876 or visit their website at; www.staffordshire.gov.uk/education/childcare/.
More information to parents on teenage drinking
Parents tell us that sometimes they struggle talking to their teenagers about sensitive issues and risk taking behaviours; and one of the area they have said they would like more information on is teenage drinking. I have been doing some work with trading standards, the police and the council to look what we can do to help. We are piloting something called a Social marketing Campaign, which in short means we want to try and get more information to parents about this area. The pilot is in Tamworth but the hope is to run it county wide - will keep you posted!
Have your say on what goes into our Parental Engagement Toolkit
As you will know from previous updates I have managed to get some funding to help us write a 'parental engagement toolkit' a set of standards that all agencies can use and apply when they are working with parents. For more information on this project visit the CWDC Parental Engagement toolkit page. http://www.cwdcouncil.org.uk/
On the 19 and 21 of October we want to get out and about around the county to talk to parents and get their views on what they think should go into the toolkit. If you want us to come and get your views let us know by calling Chrissy Marston on 01785 355 751 or email chrissy.marston@staffordshire.gov.uk
