Hi everyone.  I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce myself to you all - I started in post on the 3rd November (and on writing this that was only two weeks ago).  I have been so eager to start it has felt like such a wait!

This month I am getting out and about across Staffordshire trying to meet as many parents, and agencies who work with parents, as I can - check out my events calendar, which will be published soon, and come and meet me when I am in your local area if you can.  If you need to contact me in the meantime, please click here.  It is my initial intension to find out what is going on and who is doing what, where and how.  I will be encouraging parents to be involved and play a part in local decision making, particularly groups of parents whose views are marginalised or not easily accessed.

I have been working with parents and carers since the start of my career and am a local parent myself, so I am sure I share some parent's experiences first hand. I am trained in child psychology and have specialist training in working with children with social, emotional and behaviour difficulties and have worked in both education and prison settings. I have also previously worked for two other Local Authorities in the country.

I am dedicated to working with children, young people and their parents and making sure that parents and careers have their needs met too. For me the family and home environment are the biggest influence on children so the advice, support and information they get is central. It is hugely important that parents are active participants in their community and that their views are represented and reflected in local strategy and policy development - so I am thrilled to be doing this role and am looking forward to representing parents and encouraging their involvement locally, helping all services put the family at the centre of service delivery.
