August Blog!

Do you think you could help me talk to children and young people? Are you a whiz on the computer? Click here to find out more about two very exciting job opportunities

As you'll know by now, the people who 'get the job done' are the 'Children's Participation Network' - a group of professionals who work everyday with children and young people. Fed up with lots of consultation being tokenistic, they agreed that any big pieces of work that need children's views should be done by them. This will mean that any consultation you are asked to take part in will be handled by experienced, trained staff who work with children and young people on a daily basis. Other services who want to seek your views can then ask the Network to do this.

As Building Schools for the Future (BSF) and Integrated Youth Support Services (IYSS) are new and exciting agendas, the network agreed to try out this new approach. So, two days were held at Drayton Manor Theme Park, one for primary aged children and one for secondary.

There were lots of workshops, looking at the school day, the journey to school, lessons and learning, free time, getting around school and some wall activities, looking at important people and cyber safety.

There was also a workshop about IYSS and the youth service bought along their 'mypod', a kind of 'Big Brother' diary room where you can have you say in front of the camera!

On 8th and 9th July, 173 children and young people took part, in what has been described as 'brilliant!' Although this time most of the children and young people who took part were from the Tamworth area, the two days were so successful, that we are planning to do this again in other areas, twice a year, so look out here for future events!

There's a chance here to have a say about the name of IYSS - what do you think it should be? Click for a chance to win high street vouchers.  Click here to find out more.
