February Blog!

As usual, this month has been busy; VIA (Voice Into Action) and the people I work with have been planning for a two day event in March. This is to give you a chance to have your say about Staffordshire's Children and Young People's Plan (C&YPP). This plan is about the services that you get - that could be school, your youth club, your doctor's, the job centre, college or any other service that you go to. The days will be interactive and fun and are on 17th & 18th March. If you're aged 8 - 18yrs and interested in coming along, you can go back to my January Blog and find all the details you need.

I went to the launch of Tamworth's Shadow Trust Board and over 50 young people were there, having fun with Laser Tag and Racing Toilets! On a more serious note, the day was about having a say and the shadow trust board will meet 3 times a year, to make sure that Children's Trust Board in Tamworth have the views of young people, so that they can influence the services in their area.

I attended the UKYP youth parliament election on Valentine's Day and the turnout was fantastic! This year, over 13,000 young people voted and the council chamber was full. All young people who stood for election were given certificate and 4 young people were elected across the North, South, East and West divisions of the county. Key issues that the newly elected members will focus on are: transport, bullying, media images of young people, activities, road safety and the abolition of university fees. If you want to find out more about the UK Youth Parliament, go to: www.speakoutonline.co.uk.

Next month I should have an update on the Children in Care Pledge and feedback from the two day event.
