| Gill meets staff at Knutton Youth Centre |
I started in my role as Children's Commissioner on Monday of this week and began by setting out my new office. News travels fast and by Tuesday 'The Sentinel', a local newspaper asked to interview me. Wanting to make the best of a possible story, I decided to ask partner agencies for a venue that would be interesting and also enable me to begin the task of letting people know that I'm here!
On Thursday, I left Stafford for Knutton Youth Centre where the 'Reach' educational project is delivered to young people by youth workers in a small group setting. I was made to feel very welcome and met Matt, who seems to be really enjoying himself here - making lasagne and a chocolate cake - very tasty!
The interview went well - watch this space for feedback and photos and I'm now planning next weeks diary.
On Monday I'm off to meet the Director of Lichfield & District Council for Voluntary Services who is also the representative on the Children's Trust Board.
On Tuesday I have another interview with Staffordshire's Newsletter - local press are very keen to find out more about this role, which is useful publicity.
My intention is to visit as many agencies and settings for young people as possible in the next six months, to find out who and what is out there. So, if you haven't heard from me - be patient - I will get round to you!
-Gill.
