During 2006, a multi-agency group developed a CAF training Strategy for the Staffordshire Children's Trust.  The training strategy can be downloaded here:

There are three types of training for managers and practitioners in Staffordshire set out in the strategy:

  • CAF Briefing;
  • CAF Awareness Session;
  • CAF Practitioner Training.

CAF Briefing

The CAF Briefing is a handout designed for use with managers and practitioners in a single agency setting.  It provides a basic understanding of the CAF and can be used in team meetings or other forums for discussion.  The Children's Trust has recommended that each agency uses the CAF Briefing with their own staff, as appropriate.  The duration of briefings is likely to be 30-45 minutes.  You will need to add your organisations details to the briefing.

CAF Awareness Session

The CAF Awareness Session is a designed for managers and practitioners in a single agency or a multi-agency setting.  The Children's Trust has agreed for each agency to deliver the CAF Awareness Session to their own staff, with the opportunity for operational issues to be considered and addressed.  Multi-agency awareness sessions should be considered by agencies within each locality, wherever possible.

This level of training comprises of:

  • Powerpoint slides;
  • Trainer notes;
  • Information pack for participants.

The CAF Awareness Session is aimed at practitioners who need to know about the CAF, but are unlikely to complete the CAF themselves.  The awareness session provides a basic level of understanding.  The duration of sessions is likely to be between 2-3 hours.
