Sometimes a family cannot find all the support they need from one agency or professional e.g. school teacher or health visitor and it may be necessary for that professional to identify extra support by completing a CAF.
The CAF is a simple, easy to use assessment that captures all of a child's needs, with consent, at the earliest opportunity. The CAF may then lead to a Team around the Child meeting resulting in a plan of support. This is led by someone you trust, known as a Lead Professional.
Since 2007 Staffordshire Local Authority has been training professionals in the use of CAF to then go on to support children and families in a well co-ordinated way. Across the eight districts of Staffordshire there are over 1,000 CAFs currently in place. Training continues to be available for professionals in a multi-district, multi-agency environment. Each district has a Joint Assessment Co-ordinator (JAC) supporting those professionals who are new in using the CAF.
