Common Assessment Framework
The Common Assessment Framework (CAF) provides an easy to use assessment that is universal across services. It will help embed a shared language; support better understanding and communications amongst practitioners; reduce the number and duration of different assessments that historically some children and young people have undergone; facilitate early intervention and speed up service delivery.
The CAF should follow the child, so practitioners build each others assessments to gain a holistic view of needs. The government's aim is to reduce the number and scale of assessments on individuals and promote a co-ordinated response to service delivery. All local authorities should have the CAF in place by the end of 2008.

Thresholds of Service Intervention

During 2006, a multi-agency group developed a CAF training Strategy for the Staffordshire Children's Trust. The strategy and CAF training materials are available on the training materials page on this website.
