Closure of ContactPoint
On July 22, 2010 Tim Loughton,
Minister for Children, laid a Written Ministerial Statement informing Parliament that ContactPoint will be shut down on 6 August. The Government is continuing to consider the feasibility of a more proportionate approach to supporting frontline professionals to help protect vulnerable children from harm.
Tom Jeffery, Director General, Children and Families, has written to Directors of Children's Services and Chief Executives of ContactPoint National Partners. The
letter sets out the timetable for shut down and decommissioning, and provides guidance for local authorities, National Partners and other partners on the activities they need to undertake, and confirms funding and other support available during this period.
The government have stated that they are committed to a national signposting system. Whilst we do not have much information about this we can be certain this project will involve our most vulnerable children therefore the work that has begun on improving data quality would be valuable to continue.
ContactPoint was accessible until noon on the 6 August 2010. We are also looking at our next steps locally.
